Cha Timing:1,2,3,4
& 1,2,3,4.. |

This
is flat out one of my favorites. I love classic funk
music and the Cha Cha is the bump and grind of the 'ballroom'
dance scene.
Additional Steps: [2nd
position break] |

Cha
Cha is a *Ball
Lead Your foot positioning in the cha cha
can make all the difference in the world. You do not
want too much travel when starting out. Note the slight
turn out of the feet, this is done for a reason, it
assists with the Latin motion and to dig into the rhythm.
The steps forward and back should not even be a full
foot length and the "cha cha" to the side is a "shuffle",
not a literal step.
When practicing the basic step it is a good idea to
count it as "1,2,shu,ffle,step"..shu,ffle,step representing
the 1,2,3 or cha cha cha in the middle . I recommend
negating the "swishing hips" known as *Cuban
Motion unless your more experienced. If not
done properly and to the minimal you're going to look
pretty damn freaky. Just relax your knees and toes and
let your feet shuffle through the step.. To see a better

Real
Time..
The
Cha Cha has the ability to make people feel clumsy. It takes some
practice to feel smooth so you aren't jerking and skipping through
this step. Just remember to keep your *toes
relaxed and flex your knees in order to help decrease
the amount of bounce. (sorry about the glitch in the gif..not
sure what happened there)

Second
Position Break..
This step is a little more advanced.
You really should have a good grasp of the Cha Cha timing
before working with it. You could do the 2nd position from
an apart position (you and your partner release and do your
own thing) or you could lead it, however, leading this step
is quite challenging. You really need to keep a strong frame,
after the rock step, the woman will want to "cha cha cha"
to the left (your right) but holding a strong frame will not
allow her body to go...hence, she will only take the first
step to the side then back together. Definitely not a step
to be throwing out to a beginner. |
